Aditya Tadimeti named one of the top 300 scholars in the 2021 Regeneron Science Talent Search (STS) competition
Proud of our Lab member who was recognized as Regeneron Science Talent Search Scholars! Regeneron STS is the nation’s oldest and most prestigious science and math competition for high school seniors. Out of 1,760 applications, only 300 are selected for this honor.
Society for Science (the Society) today announced the top 300 scholars in the Regeneron Science Talent Search 2021, the nation’s oldest and most prestigious science and math competition for high school seniors. The 300 scholars and their schools will be awarded $2,000 each.
Aditya Tadimeti, who is a student at The Harker School, joined the Global Environmental Change Lab as an intern in February 2019 and was recognized for his work on using machine learning to predict the size of wildfires in California. Aditya has been examining the role of different potential drivers of wildfire burned area, including meteorological variables like temperature and humidity, ecological variables relating to land cover and fuel availability, but also socio-economic variables like county GDP or distance from closest city.
Regeneron STS recognizes and empowers the most promising young scientists in the U.S. who are creating the ideas and solutions that solve our most urgent challenges. The Regeneron STS scholars were selected from 1,760 applications received from 611 high schools across 45 states, Washington, DC, Puerto Rico and 10 countries. Scholars were chosen based on their exceptional research skills, commitment to academics, innovative thinking and promise as scientists, and hail from 198 American and international high schools in 37 states, Puerto Rico, Chinese Taipei, and Singapore.
From among this elite group of students that were named Regeneron Science Talent Search scholars, 40 finalists will be selected to participate in the finals week competition, to be held virtually due to the pandemic. Finalists will compete for $1.8M in additional awards, including the top award of $250,000. The top 40 finalists will be announced January 21st.
