Sequoia Alba is Ph.D. student in the Atmospheric Science Graduate Group working on data assimilation in climate models, with a particular focus on the impacts of extreme weather on human, animal, and plant populations. Her research will be directed toward model evaluation as well as ways model projections can be used in adaptation measures to reduce negative outcomes and human suffering due to climate change. The efficacy of science in hazard mitigation depends greatly on realistic assessment of the reliability of results. Therefore, it is vital to understand and accurately estimate uncertainties in projections produced using novel approaches (e.g. climate models, machine learning, etc.).
